As Tuesday's morning heat was building, Tommy the Biz Editor came across men (and one woman) working to shape a concrete foundation over on Hurlburt Road. Yes, across from where construction on Kohl's keeps making progress, just off the intersection of Racetrack Road and Beal Boulevard.
Turns out this is FWB Commons, with Whitrock Associates doing the developing. This is a $2 million project involving two structures side by side and 10,500 square feet in each. Keith Rockman is the man in charge at Whitrock and his financing comes from Premier Community Bank of the Emerald Coast. He told us Tuesday there would be 14 units of 1,500 square feet each, and those could be bought or leased.
Rockman is in charge of leasing, and his wife, Karen, is doing the sales through Pelican Realty. He said among those already signed on are a doctor's office, a restaurant, a real estate office and a nail salon.
Targeted completion for the first building is the end of October, Keith Rockman said, with the second building planned to finish by the end of this year,
There's also 4.67 acres behind the site that Whitrock intends to develop as residential property.
While on the site Tuesday morning, Tommy met Andy and Christina Ellenburg, part of the crew down from the Dothan, Ala., area to work on then foundations. Yes, they are husband and wife. They work for a company owned by Joseph Gayle Ellenburg.
